Perry Biography Matthew Kolbrayta
Matthew Perry Kolbrayt (10/04/1794 – 03/04/1858) - Naval figure U.S. commodore (1841).
Participated in the U.S. war with Great Britain (1812-14) and Mexico (1846-48).
In 1852 he was sent at the head of the squadron to Japan to make its government, a policy of isolation from the outside world, establish trade and diplomatic relations with the United States.
Forced the Japanese government, under threat of hostilities agreement signed in 1854, opened for American ships and ports of Hakodate and Shimoda initiating the indenture U.S. and the European powers and Japan.
Perry was the author of extensive plans for U.S. expansion in the Far East, made several attempts to capture the Bonin Islands, Ryukyu Islands, Taiwan.
