Biography Rokossovskogo Konstantin Konstantinovich

Rokossovsky Konstantin (09 (21) .12.1896 – 08.03.1968), Soviet general, Marshal of the Soviet Union (1944), twice Hero of the Soviet Union (29/07/1944 and 01/06/1945). Member of the CPSU since 1919.

He was born in the railway engineer. In the Army since 1914. Member of the 1 st World War II 1914 – 1918 – junior non-commissioned officer. In October 1917 joined the Red Guard, then the Red Army. Member of the Civil War 1918 – 1920 – Commander of the squadron, a separate division and separate cavalry regiment.

He graduated from the cavalry officers' refresher courses (1925) and postgraduate courses of higher early. composition at the Academy of. Frunze (1929). He participated in battles on the CER (the commander and commissar 5-th individual Kuban Cavalry Brigade). During the Great Patriotic War 1941 – 1945 commanded the 9 th Mechanized Corps (until 11 July 1941), 16 th Army on the Western Front (August 1941 – July 1942), Bryansk (July – September 1942) Don (September 1942 – February 1943 ), Central (February – October 1943), Belarusian (October 1943 – February 1944), 1-m (February – November 1944) and 2-Byelorussian (from November 1944 to end the war) fronts. Rokossovskogo troops under the command participated in the Moscow, Stalingrad and Kursk battles in Belarus, East Prussia, East – Pomeranian, Berlin operations. June 24, 1945 commanded a victory parade in Moscow.

In 1945 – 1949 Chief of the Northern Group of Forces. In October 1949, at the request of the Government of the People's Republic of Poland and with the permission of the Soviet government Rokossovsky went to Poland and was appointed Minister of National Defence and Deputy Prime Minister of Poland, he was awarded the rank of Marshal of Poland.

Rokossovsky elected a member of the Polish United Workers Party Politburo and a deputy of the Saeima. In 1956 Rokossovsky returned to the USSR and was the Deputy Minister of Defence of the USSR (November 1956 – June 1957), Chief Inspector – Deputy Minister of Defence of the USSR (July – October 1957), commander of the Transcaucasus Military District (1957 – 1958) Vice Minister, the Chief Inspector USSR Ministry of Defense (January 1958 – April 1962); Inspector General of the Group of Inspectors General of the Ministry of Defence of the USSR (April 1962).

Alternate Member of the CPSU Central Committee (1956-68). Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR 2 nd, 5 – 7-th convocation.

He was awarded seven Orders of Lenin, Order of the October Revolution, Order of Victory, 6 Orders of the Red Banner, Order of Suvorov and Kutuzov 1 st degree and medals, as well as many foreign orders and medals.

He was buried in Red Square near the Kremlin wall.
