Biography of Carl Milles

Carl Milles (23/06/1875 – 09/19/1955), Swedish sculptor, from 1931 he worked in the U.S.. He studied in Paris (1897 – 1904) and Munich (in 1905 – 1906). Professor of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm in 1920-31. Experienced it influence O. Rodin, medieval sculpture, Greek Archaic. Since the late 10's. turned to the monumental and decorative sculpture (ch. manner fountains), solving the problem of its connection with architecture and nature, often paid tribute to salon-like effects. Milles Fountain songs (mostly on mythological subjects) are complex constructions, sumptuous forms, famous for its picturesque, in the creation of which play an important role water jets ("Poseidon", 1930, Gothenburg, "Orpheus", 1936, Stockholm, "Meeting of Waters", 1940, St. Louis, Missouri, USA, all bronze).
