Biography Kornilov Vladimir Alekseevich

Kornilov, Vladimir (1806 – 1854) – Vice-Admiral, a famous defender of Sebastopol;

alumnus of the Sea Cadet Corps, from 1827 to 1830 sailed on a ship "Azov" in the Mediterranean Sea and participated in the Battle of Navarino;

from 1842 to 1846. commanded the ship "XII Apostles, and then was sent to England to observe the construction of ships for the Black Sea Fleet;

in 1849 was appointed Chief of Staff of the Navy, took part in the battle of Sinope, after the discovery of the Crimean campaign, made by the Chief of Defence north side of Sebastopol.

Once warm, on the orders of commander in chief, five old ships to bar the entry of the bay, the crew used the Kornilov them to strengthen the city itself, and with astonishing speed gave a chain of redoubts, bastions and batteries.

Soon Kornilov had to leave the north side, as otryazhen was to help Admiral Nakhimov, defended the south side; here Kornilov displayed his usual energy, diligence, courage and calmness, which caused him unlimited confidence of his subordinates, inspiring example of their leader.

On the first day of bombing Sevostopolya, October 5, 1854, Kornilov was on the Malakhov Kurgan mortally wounded by the kernel.
