Biography Konev Ivan Stepanovich
Konev, Ivan Stepanovich (16 (28) .12.1897 – 05.21.1973), Soviet military commander, Marshal of the Soviet Union (02/20/1944), twice Hero of the Soviet Union (29/07/1944 and 06/01/1945), Hero of Czechoslovakia (1970) and Hero of the MPR (1971). Member of the CPSU since 1918.
In 1916 he was drafted into the imperial army. In 1918, the county executive committee member of St. Nicholas (Vologda Province.) Military and county commissioner. In the Red Army in 1918. During the civil war of 1918-20 took part in battles against the forces of Kolchak, gangs Semenov and Japanese invaders in positions of military armored Commissioner, brigade, infantry division, the headquarters of the People's Revolutionary Army DDA and the Rifle Corps.
In 1921, as a delegate to the 10 th Congress of the F C (B), participated in the elimination of the Kronstadt rebellion. He graduated from the courses of higher command personnel at the Military Academy (1926). He commanded a regiment (until 1930), then a division (before 1932). He graduated from the Military Academy. Frunze (1934). In 1934-40 commander of the infantry division, corps commander of the 2 nd Red Banner of the Far Eastern Army. In 1940-41 commanded the troops Baikal and North-Caucasian military districts.
At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45 commanded the 19 Army, was then commander of the Fronts: West (from Sept. 1941 to October 10 and from August. 1942 to Febr. 1943), Kalinin (from 17 October. 1941), North -West (March 1943), Steppenwolf (July 1943), 2 nd (from oct. 1943) and 1-st Ukrainian (from May 1944 to May 1945).
Troops under the command of Konev participated in the Moscow and Kursk battles, the liberation Right Bank and western Ukraine, in the Eastern Carpathians, the Vistula-Oder, Berlin and Prague operations. In 1945-46 chief of Central Army Group and the High Commissioner for Austria. In 1946 – 1950 Chief of Land Forces and Deputy Minister of the Armed Forces of the USSR. In 1950-51 the chief inspector of the Soviet Army in 1951 – 55 commander of the Carpathian Military District, 1955-56 1 st Vice-Ministry of Defence and at the same time Commander of Ground Forces.
In 1956-60 1 st Deputy Minister of Defense. Between May 1955 and June 1960 at the same time was chief of the United States armed forces – the Warsaw Treaty. In 1960-61 the inspector general of the inspectors general of the Ministry of Defence, the Commander in 1961-62 by Soviet troops in Germany from April 1962 the inspector general of the inspectors general of the Ministry of Defence of the USSR.
In 1931-34 member of the Central Executive Committee. Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR 1-8-th convocations. Candidate for Central Committee members in the CP (b) from 1939 to 1952, a member of the CPSU Central Committee since 1952. He was awarded six Orders of Lenin, Order of the October Revolution, Order of Victory, 3 Orders of the Red Banner, two Orders of Suvorov 1-th degree, 2 orders of Kutuzov 1-th degree, Order of Red Star, 13 foreign orders and medals.
He was buried in Red Square near the Kremlin wall.
