Biography Chuikova Vasily

Chuikov Vasily Ivanovich (31.01 (12.02) .1900), born with. Silver Ponds, now a small town, Moscow region., A Soviet commander, Marshal of the Soviet Union (1955), twice Hero of the Soviet Union (19.03.1944 and 06.04.1945). Member of the CPSU since 1919.

Born into a peasant family. Since April 1918 the Red Army. Participated in the Civil War 1918 – 1920 – assistant commander, regimental commander of the regiment.

He graduated from the Military Academy. M. Frunze (1925), Faculty of Oriental Studies of the same Academy (1927) and academic courses at the Military Academy of Mechanization and Motorization Red Army (1936). He commanded a mechanized brigade, a small body, Bobruisk Army Group forces, and then the army. He commanded the army during the liberation of Western Belarus and in the Soviet-Finnish War (1939 – 1940). From December 1940 to March 1942 was a military attache in China.

During the Great Patriotic War 1941 – 1945 – Commander of the 1 st Army Reserve, renamed the 64-Army (May – August 1942), 62 th (September 1942 – April 1943) and 8 th Guards (from April 1943 until the end of war ) armies at Stalingrad, the Don, South-West, 3 rd and 1 Ukrainian-Byelorussian fronts.

After the war, Vice-President and 1 st Vice (May, 1945 – March 1949) and Chief of Group of Soviet Forces in Germany (March 1949 – May 1953.) Since May 1953 the commander of the Kiev military district, with the April 1960 Chief of Land Forces and Deputy Defense Minister, and since July 1961 while head of the Civil Defense of the USSR.

Since June 1964 head of Civil Defense of the USSR. Since July 1972 the Inspector General of the Group of Inspectors General of the Ministry of Defence of the USSR.

Alternate Member of the CPSU Central Committee (1952-61). From 1961 member of the CPSU Central Committee. Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR 2-9-th convocations. He was awarded eight orders of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, 4 Red Banner, Order of Suvorov in March 1 st degree, Order of Red Star, honorable weapon – a sword and medals of the USSR, as well as many awards and medals from foreign countries.
