Alvar Aalto Biography Hugo Henrik
Aalto Alvar Hugo Henrik (Aalto) (03.02.1898) – Finnish architect. He worked in Finland, Sweden, USA and other countries. The creator of public buildings (City Bank in Vyborg, 1927-35, a sanatorium in Pyma, 1929-33, House of Culture working in Helsinki, 1955-58), industrial structures (in Toppile, 1930-31, Sunil, 1936-39, Oulu, 1951-57), housing (in Bremen, 1958-63), villas, churches, exhibition halls, and serves as a planner (Rovaniemi, 1946-48; Syaynyatsalo, 1949-52). From a strictly geometric forms of early buildings Aalto came to the distinctive combination of national traditions, the principles of functionalism and organic architecture, to the freedom and flexibility of three-dimensional compositions, skillfully inscribed in the natural environment.
